What sort of competition does the Spark go up against?

Cheapest PWC that I see from Kawasaki is the Jet Ski STX-15F. It is quite a bit more expensive at $9,699.

Being far more than the Spark, can't it even be compared? this is like comparing apples to oranges.
The Spark is a few thousand cheaper than most of the competition on the market. SO it'll be hard to get a direct comparison.

If your rule is that it has to be similar in price then there are no PWCs to compare the Spark to, and that just isn't very much fun. Any comparison to the Spark will be seeing what you get if you spend $3,000+ more on your PWC instead of going for the ridiculously inexpensive Spark.
pulled some craigslist ads from CL orlando... realistically the SPark is competing with the used market....

2006 Sea Doo RXP, 215 Supercharged, Gold And Black

2006 Sea Doo Wake, Seats 3, Factory Wake Pole

08' Sea Doo GTX 215hp supercharged w/ trailer

but then you start to question, how abused were the machines, how well taken care of, definitely out of warranty....

plus the spark being so light will make it much easier on whatever vehicle you need to tow it with ;)
It is true that the Spark was made to pull sales away from the used market. Apparently only 1 in 4 sales of PWCs are new. Everything else is used. Hence the creation of the Spark. It largely depends on what you can find in the used market in your area.

agree. the spark competes better with alot of used models.

it comes down to brand new and warranty vs used but more features

With that sort of deciding to do, I can see a lot of people new to sea-doo's go for a brand new spark for the obvious reasons. Experienced people and people that like to get their hands dirty will go for the used models.
well yea, but most people new to Sea Doo were having their first brand experience through the used market. Buying a used rig could have you run into a myriad of problems that will not be covered by warranty anymore likely leaving to some sour tastes in the mouth.

This way Sea Doo gets to hold the newbies hands from intro to close.
I'm not surprised that the Spark is selling well in Australia. The country seems pretty set to be a place with a large PWC market. other PWC makers should be coming out with something that is also cheaper as they don't want to lose all the sales that they were getting in the new PWC market to a cheaper product.

North America is also a big one, i can see 2nd quarter sales of PWC's being crazy all over north america
anywhere that is warm year round and by a body of water will have good PWC sales, especially the Spark

Definitely not Africa, probably a small amount of people with them.

It's more like Miami & Cali.
South Beach Miami ;)
Florida and California have to be the biggest markets in America for PWCs. Other places I could see them being popular are in resort/beach house territory in southern Europe (Spain/Italy.) Most other places would have far weaker demand.

Are there any water toys/vehicles that aren't PWCs but could compete in the market? Something like wake boards, tubes, etc...

Thats an awkward question because wake boards and tubes are useless unless you have something to pull them with. You could pull witha PWC, but if you don't want a PWC for the same P/W you're looking at $40K ski boat....

Whats funny is it was Yamaha that noticed PWC buyers were shifting into the used market and promptly did nothing about it, Sea Doo on the other hand....

And lets not forget south america, caribbean & west indies, their ideal weather conditions make for a good reason to get a PWC like this. It's so cheap, i don't see why people would't wan to get one.
