A dealer just told me that the 2016 Sparks...

...will have the option of a 120hp engine.

Has anyone heard about this from any other srouces? He seemed pretty confident that it was happening for next year's model, which wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I haven't heard anything to that effect but 120HP would be cool.
If true, I wonder what would change?

Sign me up!! :)
My dealer said there are a few upgrades for next yrs model. But would not confirm any yet.
Don't think I would want that much acceleration...

Lmfao Just kidding ;)

MPG would go down. Reliability would go down. Injuries would go up.

All of those are very possibly true yet I would definitely still welcome a more powerful engine option.
I was wondering if changes like this would be mechanical, software or something else. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Hi I have the V-tech E85 tune and it is supposed to make 120hp .It does just leap right out the water and is great with passenger on the back. Thats just the software tune and high octane fuel.Lots of fun more power.
With more power comes greater prices. Here is a great idea drop the 60 hp and bring in the 120 HP and make the 90 HP $4999. Who agrees?

I would like this except it would kill the resale value of my current sparks...

The risk you take buying a first year product. I have one so I would be in the same boat as you. Sucks but worth it.

Don't know about anyone else on here but I didn't buy my Spark to sell it, just to ride it. Doesn't really matter much to me if it becomes completely worthless tomorrow. It would be disappointing, of course, but I could still ride just fine.

Depending on what is changed, it might not change the resale value that much anyhow. What changes are made, if any, will likely be readily applicable to the existing 900ACE; it could give us an opportunity for simple, bolt-on upgrades.
I don't think they will change the 900 ACE. I also don't think they will do a 120hp version

If this is true, I can't see the 900ace making 120hp if it stays NA. No way vtech tune is doing 110 either, but that's another story ha.

If they were to beef up the engine more (Better bearings, Forged everything...etc) It would likely hold up to the RPM's. But for how long is the question.

My buddy has a Yamaha FX-140. Its a 4cyl engine that cranks out 12,000 RPM. Now that's just fuc*ed.

There are engine improvements that can be made to the 900ACE that could up the horsepower without boost. Better breathing head, less restrictive intake, better airflow through the hull, exhaust tuning, injector upgrades, ECM upgrades, internal engine component upgrades to allow higher RPM, etc. I think the 900ACE has more potential than just 90HP.
Of course they could also just boost it.

when the 4-tec engine came out it was 155hp now the same block is pushing out 260hp, Brp is designing engines for use in more than one application, we saw this in the Can-Am line when they came out with their v-twin 800 engine from that design they came out with a 500, 650, 800, 1000, 1000 turbo and now they are releasing an 570, and the 850, since the 900 ACE engine came out they also released a 1330 ACE engine in the Spyders, so maybe they are going to put the 1330 engine in the spark!? or just retune the 900 or add a supercharger or turbo? One thing I would bet on is there will be more variations of the spark coming!!

2015 Kawasaki Ninja H2R 998cc is 300HP. Wowza!
Are we forgetting about the pump here??? This is the limiting factor.

Standard 90hp Spark. 8100ish rpm...fitted with a standard pump =90hp.....50mph..ish

Now, let's just say that the rumour is true and Brp release a 120hp version of the Spark. The standard pump fitted to the 2014/2015 will not cut it.....to get the most out of the extra 30hp they will need to upgrade the pump.

120hp = what RPM.

Conclusion....upgrade to 120hp + new designed pump a lot of $$$$$$$ so will it still be as a atractive?
