Took spark out of storage to get ready for season and found this! Have always flushed it and hosed down exterior after use. Live in cape cod and never been in ocean.

Ideas?

Isn't the bottom bit, below the drain plug plastic. I know I sometimes get white powder (minerals) in the foot wells when the lake water has dried. It isn't just scale is it?

How would I tell the difference between salt corrosion and scaling?


The ride plate and pump are completely coated. Tried applying white vinegar last night then hosing off after it sat for 30 minutes, but it's all back again this morning.


I've ordered some Salt Away, but not sure if it's salt or not because it's never been in Saltwater. Again, the anode is untouched which is weird. Any suggestions on how to clean this up would be greatly appreciated.

This was stored out of the water, or in the water?

I've heard of boats stored in a marina having corrosion because a neighboring boat is accidentally putting a charge into the water - and that bypasses your sacrificial anode.

Read this article and pay attention to the chapter on Stray Current Corrosion.

im not sure, but verify what living organism live in that lake, if you dont clean your boat with soap organism can form on the bottom of the boats, just like zebra mussel here in texas

Can you confirm that the 'corrosion' is on the plastic as well as the metal parts?

My guess it that something stayed on there from the lake, like posted above. I soak down the pump and all metal pieces with WD40 prior to any long term storage.
