Impeller Rust

7779 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  GizmoK
Hey guys I've heard some people complaining about impeller rust issues.

I just had my spark delivered and have not driven it or looked under it yet.
There is no diagram of every part in the manual so, stupid question here: where is the impeller? does it stick out or is it up in there? I'd like to spray it with fluid film to help prevent rust and also make sure I spray it with salt away and water when I'm flushing my ski. Thanks.

The impellar is in the pump located at the back of the ski. Threre is no way to spray anything on it that will stay. Not hard to take off, there is thread on how to do it with pictures. Takes about 15min to remove. Stop worrying about every little thing posted and have fun with your ski :D

Thanks. I know guys, between everyone bringing up all these issues the have been having with their sparks, knowing its $150 in shipping each time I need the dealership to look at it and always over analyzing everything in life I worry a bit too much :)

I have about 14 hours on mine with two uses in salt water down here in south florida and it has a pretty good build up of rust on it. Its also caused from cavitation, As water cavitates it eats away at metal, so where the cavitation occurs is the spots you would see rust. +1 just take the spark out and enjoy it before you overlook into it and spend more time worrying about it than actually having fun. I've rode mine a hard 14 hours and no issues yet, just be carefull with it and youll be fine

Will see you out there!
wakestar - what is all this fancy bling you have going on around your name ? lifetime member and moderator now? oh lala :)

mvardi - i was on the water for 2 1/2 hrs my first time today. i went from haulover down the bay to the tip of south beach and back up via the ocean. i was around haulover inlet about 11:15am. didnt see your pineapple butt out there :p
Yep lots of new things up there haha they made me a moderator now so watch out! Just kidding :)
That's a pretty good journey , I'll be out at haul over on Sunday!
I was a moderator for RaversOnly.Com back in the day, so much to deal with. All the power to you. My friend who frequents the nude beach wants me to hang out at haulover Sunday. Weather permitting I'll be over there but hanging out mainly in the ocean just chilling. i need to go back over to the marina now that i have a cover which arrived today and i need to flush it better. have to buy an attachement so i can fit the darn salt away mixer unit thing on the flush kit hole. pain in the butt today. Im not a fan of the bay anymore. i got my first ticket on my first ride. i saw a 30mph sign about 10 feet in front of me so didnt think id get pulled over going 15mph since i was well under the limit. im new to the whole no wake thing it gets confusing. the water popo wrote me a $90 ticket saying he was doing me a favor because its usually $500 and he pointed it out in a pamphlet. i guess telling him it was my first time and showing him my bill of sale proving it im new and i bought it a week ago didnt help either. oh well lesson learned, at least most of it goes to some manatee fund.

totally rambling and totally off topic. my bad Mr. Moderator :)

That's unfortunate he wrote you the ticket. Figured they would let you off with a warning since it's your first time out there, their really tough on the manatee zones down here, I know it sucks but it's better to be careful and avoid the ticket. I'd reccomend taking a boating safety course to familiarize yourself with nautical signs, it's a great way to learn.
When washing ski down give the pump a rinse down so any salt that sits on the prop will rinse off ... Works for me ...

heh slasher I squirted that hose in every oraface I could find ( other than the side panel / engine area) the flush kit on the ibr leaves much to be desired.

thanks wakeskatr. I agree.
Just Google the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel, looks like the impeller is 304, no big deal really
