Is 60hp enough?

:) So...time after time I get asked. Is 60 HP enough? And, I always respond the same. I say yes, 60hp will get you to 42mph. You say lol not that fast. So the next time your on the water get you ski to 42mph and simply jump off(I really don't advise this), let me know how it feels to hit the water going that fast. Look...I own a 60hp Spark, I weigh 220lbs. And when I throw a 180 and then gun it, it has enough power to stand the Spark straight up. Plus I like the fact that the ace engine has been detuned to 60hp, this means less stress on the engine. OK i get it some of you like to go fast in a straight line, wow good for you, dont buy the Spark because that is not what they were built for.

The Spark was built for low speed(15-25mph) fun. You know twisting and sliding the ski side ways, 180s and 360s. You know like they were in the early 90s. If you want to go for long rides without quick sudden movements then buy something else. But if your like me, and enjoy throwing tricks, then the spark is for you.

I have a deep respect for how dangerous and unforgiving the water can be . When I ride the Spark I have no intension what so ever of landing in the water, I use caution to avoid jumping waves and try not to over reach based on water conditions. All that being said I don't find the touring mode on the 3 up ( putting out 60 hp ) to be responsive enough except for use in a no wake zone .I always use the sport mode (90 hp). It makes the ski an entirely different beast. It has little to do with top speed for me. I consider 40 + mph
fast enough for traveling in a 9 foot mini boat but the way it responds at 90 hp is a much more satisfying experience.with 2 people on board I think it needs the 90 just to not compromise safety by suffering from being under powered.
Agreed, the 60 hp is a dog compared to the 90. I wish we could choose what mode the ski starts out in when started so I don't have to switch it all the time.
I think it's a good idea to start in touring. Less likely to push it
Before it's up to full temp.
One would hope a rider would know this before hand
I have two 60 2ups and I'm completely happy with them. I do plan to upgrade to more Hp down the road just cause it's more power, but I would hope the price will come down
I have a 60hp and a 90hp....

There is a big difference between the two to me...I tend not to ride my g/f's ski because it is much slower (and it's pink too :) ) ...I let a friend of mine ride both, and I put him on the 60hp one first specifically for that reason...he was like "wow, this is awesome"...I asked "does it feel slow"....he response "no, not at all...this thing has great pickup"....then we swtiched....his first response was "thanks aaron, you just cost me another 700 dollars when I get one of these"...then I had him take out of touring mode and put it into sport mode and he was even more "wow'ed"....

Point of the story, if all you drive is the 60hp then you will be very happy with it...but the minute you take the 90hp for a stroll, you will prob be dropping cash for a v-tech lol...
Yeah but the 90 hp puts a bigger smile on your face
I just took mine out this past weekend. I have the 90hp but I am leaving it in touring mode until I get past the break in period. At 60hp with my wife and I on it moves along very quickly. I can't wait to get this bad boy broken in and see what it will be like at 90hp.

no doubt. it also puts a bigger dent in your wallet :p
Well, I do most of my tricks at 20-30mph. So I'm very happy with 60hp. I mean I have more then enough power to not only stand my 2up straight up in the air but enough to actually bring it all the way over. Which kind if hurts when you have 400lbs land on you. But I would recommend if you plan on having more than one rider get the 90hp.

I would not leave it in only touring mode during break in. I've been told to ride it hard, full throttle squirts, just don't hold it WOT for more than 10 seconds. You want a good load on the motor to seat the piston rings.

Yep, my phone sent this...
get what is withing your budget and just enjoy it

no regrets!
Finally got 5 1/2 hrs on and love the 90hp mode.
is there a sport mode on the 60 hp? i have been reading around but havent found a clear answer. If so how is the switching into sport done? (i assumed pressing a button for X amount of seconds)
