Maintenance after salt water ride

8885 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mando918
Hello all!

So, I took my spark for the first time out in salt water and i properly flushed it. I watered down the surface to take as much salt water off it. 3 days go by and I open my battery compartment to see white specs everywhere, meaning salt water dried up and i have crystals spots. Is this normal? Should i be worried?

I am pretty new to the PWC world, so any advice would help. Am i not cleaning it well enough and how do i get to those crevices i cannot get into since everything is so tight?

Thanks in advance!!!

Did you have the plug in? You shouldn't have saltwater inside the hull after the first ride. Take the top deck off, clean it all up, and coat everything with fluid film ASAP.
+1 just give it a good rinse and a coat of the fluid fil and you should be good. Just check it regularly, I noticed I had the same issue with mine but Its related to my side engine cover having broken tabs and not sealing properly. *I havent got my recalled piece yet :(
What plug are you referring to?
He's most likely referring to the drain plug

I know this may sound dumb but where exactly is it located. I want to make sure it is the one i am looking at. It never had a plug if i am correct. Is water supposed to get in at all?

Thanks for all the feed back so far. This has me a bit worried now. I apologize if i sound inexperienced =(

Thanks.

Okay so I can definitely say it did not come with the plug and water was inside. Will that be bad for the ski? I guess i need to take that up with the dealership.

What does the plug actually look like? Tried to do a search online but get various images. Thanks for all the help guys.
It's a plug with male threads on it I'm pretty sure it's 3/4" (haven't measured just eyeballed it) it has a groove on the outside used for tightening, looks somewhat like a straight line with slight curves on each end. If your looking back to front, the left side is for flushing and the right side is the drain plug.
All this info is in the operating manual. There are pictures of where the plug is. If there is no plug there wouldn't be water inside. It would drain out the hole. I would make sure the access plate is installed properly. If you don't have Ibr the drain hole is easy to see. It's on the lower right when looking at the pump from the rear.
I would go discuss this with the dealer. From what I understand, based on the survey I filled out for BRP, that the dealer is supposed to go over this info with you on delivery of the ski. Also, my plug has a "lanyard" attached to it so it doesn't get lost. So you would see it dangling if it was not inserted.
First: ALWAYS read manual, (it even has pics :) then read manual again, while "at" the machine to familiarize before heading out. Good advice with a new car, boat, whatever..

Seems a lota folks are forgetting to do some reading first by the threads here...

Not going to lie and say i read it thoroughly, but when looking up the manual i got and the one posted on this site, the one i received seems different and didn't have all that info. Sounds far fetched

And it wasn't dangling or anything, it was just missing. Spoke to the dealership and they said they will give me a new one.

I will agree that I should have payed more attention :(

Again thanks everyone for the help!
