Provided Melnor quick-connect

I don't know if this has happened to anyone, but yesterday the provided Melnor quick-disconnect that I use to attach the water hose to the flush intake at the back of the ski, failed! No water was going in! Good thing I noticed it quickly!

Ok, I presume it was operator error, but I just thought I'd throw this out there.

There is a plastic ball in the middle and it is capable of blocking all water flow. It seems to depend on how far you push adapter on your flush intake. Apparently, you can actually attach it with the ball blocking water flow. Whatever.

I will not be using it anymore! I bought a quick disconnect that has a valve lever that you rotate. That way I can just look at the lever position and know whether or not the water flow is on or off. No worries!

WOW, i was actually going to head over to Home Depot today to get that quick disconnect. Thanks for the heads up, now i will look for the one your talking about with the lever.
I don't even think about starting it until I see water running.

U should always start it before u turn water on to ski, then when done it's reversed. Water off, then ski. Been that way with every ski I've had. Flush procedure should be in the manual.

You never run the water unless the engine is running. The exhaust will fill up with water and then the engine.

It won't fill up in the time it takes me to push the button. Call me paranoid but it don't like to start it until I hear water flow. Been doing it for two years now.

Yup, I didn't even know there was a ball valve inside! That black and yellow thing is too tricky to deal with.
For the past 3 years or so I've used a brass quick connect like this one for flushing. There is no check valve in it so the water flows freely. If it's not well connected it just leaks; it's never popped off so far.

Between the end of the hose and the female end of the quick connect I added a ball valve.

Turns out Home Depot near me only had the melnor quick release. Think what I might do is just drill out the plastic ball, don;t really care if the water comes out before connecting it, just as long as it connects easy.
I used to use the plastic ones and they didn't last very long.
Bought the brass quick connects and the valve at Lowes.
