Rear Boarding Step

Hi all,
My 4 year old stood on the rear boarding step outside of the water while I wasn't looking. I heard a pop and now the step will not go back up. Is there a spring or something that broke? I called my dealer and they weren't even sure yet. Any help?

Thanks. Hopefully something that is covered by the warranty.
I would assume its covered. Seems like a faulty part to me
Just got back from dealer. Apparently this is the second one they've had. The first one didn't even make it home before it broke on the trailer while being towed. They said to look for a recall on the step possibly in the future. But they swapped it out no problem under warranty.

At least your dealer took care of it under warranty and didn't make you pay, hopefully this is what dealers do for others.
Bought a new Spark on April 12, loaded in the back of the truck, son easily pushed down on boarding step, snap, it broke internally. The service tech swapped out with another new one from another ski, I asked him to push it down, Snap... It broke internally also. Its obvious there is a defect, my guess is there are some springs that are too stiff allowing it to break the plastic inside. I was told they would contact BRP and warranty it. I still have not heard back from the dealer so I left two messages yesterday for them.
The day I purchased the Spark...Earlier when checking the ski on the showroom floor, I had pushed down on that step just to see how it functioned, and it worked fine. If it would have broke on me in the showroom, I sure would not have bought a new ski. Very aggravating for it to break before you get it off the dealer lot.
We have logged a couple hours easy riding on it so far for engine break in, so far everything else seems fine and seriously considering buying another one but may be looking to a different dealer if this step warranty gets drug out.

Gramz20... where are you located? Illinois here.
Just outside Chicago. Did you buy from Nielsen's? They told me about one that broke on the truck before it got home.
Got mine at WPS. The two steps that broke on mine at the dealer were in my opinion defective. Either the plastic was weak or the spring was way to strong. Didn't take much force for them to pop. Should be no reason for them to not fold down to full down position then push back up on their own. We will see if the replacement works correctly when I get it.
uh oh

do i smell a recall?
shitty plastic parts ftl
Anyone have issues using them to board in water?
I went to pick up my new boarding step under warranty, not a problem, new one is just fine. While I was there I bought another Orange 3Up so We would have a pair for the family... Boarding step on it is fine (since it was already replaced under warranty because they used that one to 'try' and replace the first one that broke on the first ski). Anyway, good to go and the dealer was good to work with.

I talked to one of the service techs and he made mention that a couple days ago BRP posted a 20 push test to do on each new step. If it didn't break internally, it passed, if it broke...obviously replace under warranty. So Sounds like most should get checked and replaced before they go out on new Skis now.

Hope this helps.

Funny I was looking at a new spark in the showroom and it was hanging down broken . I guess Ill make my own out of stainless steel.
Mine just broke as we'll, except that my spring did not. The plastic that the spring sits on failed. Never used it out of water. I'm only 175 so I know my weight didn't. Dealer was ok about it..warrantied it and will get new in a week. I attached this pic but it's hard to see..

Looks like that kills my dealer's theory....

My dealer tried to tell me that they weren't made to be pushed down outside of the water...I found that to be very skeptical....I would guess that a new design is in the works.....I mean for real, how difficult is it to make a retractable boarding step?

I'm holding off on that one till it gets sorted...
saw that too

Our local dealer had a display on the floor with a broken step........ looks like it's a bad design.

We flipped ours today and used the step to (try to) board when we got it back on the trailer we noticed it would not snap back up. Seems there is a defect for sure. The spring must of snapped or fallen off. I guess I will have to call the dealer. This was the first time we used it and it failed....not good.*-*
my LH access panel broke two tabs first time out too, though I had opened it a few times gettin familiar :), both items BRP is recalling/fixin I read...

BRP has issued a bulletin on this, though I do not know exactly what it is
