Solas impeller test - not good!

me and my bro have identical stock 90HP 2up sparks...I bought the solas 12/17 and was expecting a decent increase in performance...we raced multiple times side by side..and it was weird to realize that the solas impeller cause NO difference in performance...sometimes a half second slower on top end....only did that was noticed was the RPMS are now lower with the solas...disappointing..

Yeah, there were a bunch a threads awhile ago started about mods done to the ski. In all the mods, it was always done to the ski with 60hp. Even the vetch tune wasn't worth it for a 90hp. I am just going to hold out, enjoy the ski and wait until something else comes out that actually increases something other than torque. Nothing out now is really for the 90hp engines.

The New Sea Doo,s should be out around the 23rd of the month ? Maybe SD will add a few MPH so people trade up and More people get our slightly used skies!

does lower rpms = better gas mileage?
i would think so since the enigne isn't requiring as much fuel, demand is much less.
Thinking back to the Spark advertising before I bought...wasn't the big plus for the Spark high gas mileage. Compared to say Sea Doos other high power supercharged 80mph offering or competitor's empty 15 gallons in 45 minutes. I've got about 20 hours on the Sparks now and the more I think about it the less I think I need the 90hp HO
I have the 90hp, and the gas consumption is awesome. I have been out all day and still end up at the ramp with at least 3 bars left.
yeah 5 hours run time for full tank which is only 39$ in canada

We experienced exactly the same last week...

2014 Spark 2 up 90hp SOLAS 12/17 impeller and 2015 2 up 90hp Stock impeller. NO DIFFERENCE!
I had my Solas installed about a week or so ago and at first thought it was slightly quicker. I do see a 1 mph increase but who would ever feel that? The low end and mid range actually seems slower than stock once I've compared to another stock 90hp ski
I purchased a skat-trak 12/14 and a stainless wear ring we'll see what that does when it arrives.
But when riding alone the placebo effect makes it quicker :)
Best performance mod, don't eat breakfast. No really when you have two riders on the spark it has a much higher toll on the ski as opposed to a larger jet ski. Has anyone raced a 2up 90HP vs a 3up 90HP, how much would the deck slow you down. Also has anyone tried the aftermarket intake grates?
Last weekend i tried a 2015 2up spark with 8 hrs on it. I have a solas 12/17 impeller and riva ss wear ring, and the spark i tried was completely stock. Mine jumps a couple times out of the water in neutral trim, trimmed all the way down it stick to the water and have better acceleration (due to the better hookup). The stock spark i tried was in neutral trim(cause it had no trim...) and would cavitate ALOT more than mine before picking up speed. I felt like it was "held back", but when it got up to speed the "pull" was actually better than with the solas! The solas has better hook up and accelerateion than the stock impeller though, and is why i would choose the solas over the stock impeller.

And yes, both skis were the same, except for mine being 3up and the other a 2up. 90hp, ibr and in sport mode.

It appears the Solas prop has more bite with people running bone stock Sparks reporting lower rpm on the big end. I suspect that prop is more designed for the 110hp or 120hp tune which both would turn that prop faster creating more thrust. The 120hp tune is running E85 which builds 7-10% higher torque across the rpm band than the 110hp gasoline tune does. So higher torque can turn a higher pitched prop easier resulting in higher thrust.

Has anyone here tried the Solas prop with either the 110hp or 120hp tune? Maybe compared a stock prop to the Solas with the Vtech tune to see what max rpm it obtains on the big end and doing some quarter mile drags against other Sparks known to being bone stock or other already sorted out configurations?

I installed a Riva racing stainless ring with the Solas. 900 HO 3 up. Huge difference in performance to include lower RPM's all around. Solas is cheaper than stock impeller at that. No more cavitation which was a performance issue in my opinion while doing lower speed spins/tricks. I highly recommend the Solas and Stainless wear ring upgrade. I will never run the stock impeller again. Plus why would you when the Solas is cheaper?! Also a plactic wear ring makes no sense if your already doing the Solas intall in there! Happy Riding
The plastic wear ring is there to save your impeller and drives haft if you suck up a rock.
