Sounds like voltage dropout. Check all the cable connections on the battery and the starter solenoid . There is a ground connection on the left lower case of the engine. The engine goes to crank and the when there is a lot of high resistance in the cables voltage drops to nothing shutting the ecu off for a second .Then when the solenoid loses voltage the ecu get power again and it start again making the noise you are hearing. This could also be caused by a locked up engine or junk battery.

The ground stud on the block has several cables on it. The large black cable goes to the negative on the battery. Efi is very finicky when it comes to loose connections causing high resistance and low voltage. We get a couple vehicles in every year with similar symptoms. More information as to what was actually done/checked would help the diagnosis. I imagine it started working again and the dealer just gave it back without mentioning what they did?
