Why the need for a tune?

I am about to buy 2 Sparks. After reading threads here, I am just going to get 2 60HP versions and tune them to 109HP.

I guess my probably obvious but dumb question would be...

If these engines are capable of much higher HP with just a simple program change...why wouldn't SeaDoo just have them at that HP off the rack?

Wouldn't it be more beneficiary to them to advertise a 109HP ski for $4999 than a 60HP one?

Is the tune really as safe as VTech is making it out to be?

Looking forward to posting some pictures asap.

More HP = more engine wear and more stress on your engine parts.
More HP = more speed and a quicker ski, you decide if you want to go faster or not.
There are always consequences when you modify something to work harder. It may last for years with the tune with no problems, you'll never know until you do it though......
Personally I see no reason other than pure greed to detune a 90hp engine and then charge $700 more just to tune in back the power it was built for. OK riddle me this . If BRP will not retune the 60hp engines for more profit as an dealer option then why did they even use the 900ace when they already had the 600ace which ironically is 60hp? Then the base price might be somewhere near $4500 ? I will try to get my 60hp out this weekend to see just how weak it is detuned.
BRP think about this. The rest of the PWC comunity is already laughing at how small and slow the spark is compared to the high HP boats that have been passed off as PWC for the last 15 years. Building it extra gutless is just going to make them think its an even worse machine.
Personally Id stick with a 90hp tune till several members have 100 to 200 hours on a 109hp map with no ill effects. Unlike 2 strokes the 4 stroke valve train pays the price for higher rev limits and will fatigue the springs quicker.

The touring mode on the HO does feel slow .(I gather that's at 60 hp equivalent)
The sport mode fells fast as **** to me to the point of being more than I want to control if I get aggressive with it in a chop. I don't think Sea Doo has to make excuses to anyone. The feel of the HO is responsive ,nimbl, stable and overall great.

I Agree!! To Tune a 60HP Spark costs $950 and To Just Upgrade your purchase to a Warranty covered 90 HO is $699 More???
I chose the 90HO Until ALL the aftermarket stuff is sorted out during the coming year?
Even with ALL the additional HP It seems the Scoop grate could hold the biggest gain for the Spark and when I see 1.5 -2 MPH from a Scoop Grate I will be glad to purchase!
like said above

more hp = more engine wear

not good for warranty
