I decided to do it by cutting off a piece of pool noodle then slitting it long ways and sticking a bamboo barbecue skewer (the ones where it's wider on the top) down through the noodle and spark's holes that were meant for the optional snap in fenders. It was easier than dealing with the wire. The only time I'd need bumpers/fenders is if I was docking at a water side restaurant or anchored with other boats and skis side by side that I didn't want to bump into. This works for me and for $2 :) Maybe I'll upgrade to yellow ones to match my ski when there is a larger selection of pool noodle colors in stores next summer :) :) :)
