There is No need to change it till 100 hours-I Changed 2 Quarts at 20 Hours just because I had an extra $18 in my wallet? The oil that I extracted Looked perfectly New in color BUT I wanted to get 2 quarts of Valvoline 5-40 Synthetic in it for the rest of the summer and will change the filter and oil again in the Fall.

Diddo that, today's oils are stout so if not contaminated, let 'em go the year or at least 50~ hours (if you want to be anal)...I run a full synthetic (since syns don't absorb water) in my 2010 Jeep that only gets changed every few years - 6K miles (with a oversize premium filter of course) and my Ford of 188K miles and 16 years gets quick lube changes of dino oil and basic filters only every 5000 + miles (oil analysis has been fine). It uses about a quart in 5500~ miles! Oils LAST, watch the level and enjoy riding instead. Folow the manuals recommendations and it'll last, besides, that $18 mentioned is a /12 + tank of fuel :nerd:

I'm following the manual on this.
First service at 50 hrs at the dealership.
First oil change at 100 hrs ( doing it myself)

Can you guys help me out with this one.
I plan on using the 10W 40 (all weather) vs the 5w 40 ( summer) since although its like summer year round in Miami, there are some days where the temp will get down to about 45 for about 10 random days. I plan on running her year round even if its a little chilly out.

This pic is from the manual. Is the 10w40 synthetic oil the same stuff I'm used to using in a car that I can just pick up at Auto Zone or is it a special marine grade oil of some sort? The " API Service SN " in the manual confused me since I have no idea what that means. Thanks

Ahhh didn't know there was a debate lol. So 10w40 synthetic motorcycle oil specifically vs regular? I'm making sure I definitely get this right since years ago when I first did an oil change on my first scooter I put in synthetic and it was the other kind. I learned you're not supposed to blend oils like that. Don't remember exactly but I know I messed things up

Debate. Yes there are 1000s of reams of forum pages dedicated to the subject. To make it easy, any oil you pick up from the shelf, just look for the "API Service SN" on the label of the 5w40 or 10w40 bottle. You can use motorcycle 4-stroke synthetic oil as well. Motorcycle oil has a additive in it for the clutch as the crank and the clutch disks share the same oil pan. You won't need the additive but will still work the same.

But why would you want your Spark to sound like a Harley or Super Bike??!! :D

To make it even easier just pick up what you need of the BRP XPS stuff. Or take a trip to your local West Marine, and while you're there browse the boat stuff gadgets. It may cost more than automotive oil but you'll probably only change your Spark's oil once a year anyway. What's a few bucks?

If I don't find the XPS oil, I'm using marine grade synthetic oil as long as I read "API Service SN" somewhere on it I'm good to go. That's my theory.

ahh so " API Service SN " would be on the label or motorcycle 4 stroke because this is a 4 stroke. makes sense.

hate going to the dealers so wont be getting the brp xps but i do live near a west marine :p

good info.

thanks !!!

I didn't mean to confuse you. As stated look for the minimum requirements which is "APN Service SN". On higher HP and supercharged skis it's more important to change the oil frequently(I change every 10-15hrs). That being said, we look for cheaper equivalent oil to the Seadoo oil.

Find any 5w-40 SYNTHETIC and it should have the SN rating, (mobil One comes to mindas readily available) since it's under warranty I went with the XPS full syn but, $14 a quart it's pricey. I expect to leave it in two seasons tho as machine has only 24~ hours on it after season one. should get maybe 3 dozen hours next year I imagine.

I'd avoid the 10W40's as that's an old grade from years when oils had some pretty bad characteristics, today's oil compositions are **** stout and a dcent value. Wally World will have several SN 5W-40 choices that should not void your warranty. Don;t forget teh filter, check with a large automotive jobber and see if they can procure it vice the pricey $15~ BRP filter. Maybe an o ring too every other change (?)...don't forget to recrank the motor with throttle wide open 1-2 x when suctioning the oil out and after removing the filter to finish the sump. It's an easy job, some good spray similar to or the XPS lube on all the metal, pivot points is good care too at the O/C

Thanks Jeff. I'm sure my warranty will be up by the time my first oil change is due ( 100 hrs) so not worried about that.

I'm just looking for what to have on hand should I read low on oil and also to know what I'll be needing for the future.

Is it okay if the 5w 40 gets down to like 45 degrees? I know the manual said " summer " for 5w40 and all weather for 10w 40. I'll be riding year round but we get a few brisk days in Miami.

You can get this Very Good oil by the 6 pack with Free shipping for $8 a quart instead of the $15 for BRP stuff.
45 Degrees has No effect on the oil- Mine sit in the garage all winter down to below zero sometimes?
I Do No think you will be riding when its 45 Degrees Outside? (Maybe I,m wrong?) Even if you do the oil will probably warm up before you do.

Thanks Sarge. I'll ride during 45 degrees lol. In NY I'd walk over piles of snow in flip flops ( carefully ) and I'd ride my bike or run when it was 15 degrees out. ( I had a car then too ) I don't like the cold but I can handle it hehehe :)

Not the best video but I changed the oil on mine today with the top on and though it may help the odd person.

It took just slightly more the 2 Qts & I did not crank it WOT as I have built my share of engines and don't like the idea of running her dry over a few ounces of "old" oil sticking around... just my opinion.

Great vid. Thanks. So you need an " inverted torque socket e8" to get the filter cap off? They failed to mention that little detail in the shop manual. I looked on Ebay, Amazon and Home Depot and didn't see this socket listed :( Where did you get yours? It looks like a pretty easy oil change. When I change the oil on my scooter its not bad, just a pain getting the cap back on which is directly under th scooter and spring loaded so its a bitch to get the threads right from that weird angle and spring working against ya :p

Bombardier is pronounced " bom-bar-de-ay " ?! Wow I feel like an idiot. I thought it was pronounced " bom-ba-deer" Lmao.
Oh well. I thought Ralph Lauren was pronounced " Ralph Ler-ren " but realized it's " Ralph Lor-en" this week.

Tomato Tomotto :p

Hi Shannon happy new year!! Yeah look for Torx E8 socket, that should come up ok on Ebay. I'm going to buy one from an Aussie seller, the sellers in the States want $53 odd for freight.... reedickeless!!! Good thing you don't speak French too often, do you know what a pomme de terre is? you say it as pom duh tear ( as in tear something apart) its a potato or as the French say literally an apple of the earth (soil). They are well known for making their language complicated to follow, with various items having male or female gender (le or la). Ok that's enough schooling for today, how is the Spark going. Your posts are always good reading, also how are the doggies? Cheers, Bazza

BAZZA - Hi happy new year. what season is it over there now? i can never keep it straight. It must be Spring in Miami since all the new gardening stuff is now back in the stores after being pretty much non-existent for a few mo. The dogs and the ski are doing well. I've been bustin' my **** trying to get in shape for summer. 2 hr biking and 1 hr beach workout every day. :) I found that socket on Ebay. Thanks. Weird looking socket. Not sure why they had to put fancy looking bolts on the thing. lol.

I'm used to that from the EL and LA I hear all day in Miami. I can go days without hearing English here lol I only know how to say " yes " " suck " and " pineapple " in French. So I could either sell fruit or be a ***** should I be looking for employment in France :p

Phill - Thanks! Wow really? That side port never gives me the impression of " plenty of room " Good to know. I think my biggest fear with the whole thing will be dropping parts down in there. I'm going to have to be super careful :p
